BlackBerry Curve 8520 Silver

June 27th, 2010

Blackberry’s latest offering- the Blackberry Curve 8520 Silver- is cheaper than the Curve 8900 by almost $20 and for the price is an excellent phone.

On of the most significant features of the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is its optical touchpad, which is a smart and clever revision of the trackball navigator of the previous BlackBerry phones and represents a marked improvement in terms of usability. The sensitivity of the touchpad is adjustable in the Settings menu as well.

Another welcome change is the presence of media keys on the top of the phone. The keys work for both music and videos and make the media player very convenient and easy to access and operate. Another good thing about this mobile phone is the presence of a 3.55mm headphone jack. Included on the left side of the phone, this audio jack really enhances the overall multimedia experience of the phone.

Other positive aspects of this phone include an expandable memory of up to 16 GB, the 512 MHz CPU, the more compact but still easy to use QWERTY keyboard, the Office document editor and its solid and sturdy build.

Let us now discuss the negative things of the Curve 8520 Silver. While the touchpad and the new media keys are a welcome change from the Curve 8900, the change in the screen, that is located between these two new features, is a major drawback in this BlackBerry mobile phone. The 2.4 inches TFT display is a bad 320X240 resolution showing only 65000 colors. As a result, the text and pictures are not clear enough and if you have seen the display of the Curve 8900, you would look at the poor display of 8520 with great surprise and greater disappointment.

The camera is also an average 2 megapixels and does not offer many options. There is no FM radio, no 3G support and no TV-out functionality. On top of all this, this phone also lacks GPS and does not even come with BlackBerry App World. In addition to this, without BlackBerry Internet Service, one will not be able to use many features of the Curve 8520.

Some good Blackberry Curve 8520 Silver deals can be found online with other BlackBerry deals. For Curve 8520, these deals and discounts are more important since on the current market price, this phone seems to be a bit expensive considering all the qualities that it lacks. Our advice to you would be: go for this phone only if you find it with a good discount.
